Think Outside the Bottle

Each month, I receive dozens of calls from concerned folks about recycling related issues.  The question of the month comes from T. Gerring...

What can we do with plastic water bottles?

Here are a few possibilities to sip on...

  1. Recycle them at a local drop-off site or put them out on the curb.

  2. Mix them with other #1 through # 7 plastics and bring them to the event on Oct 11.

  3. Start a collection area in your organization (like Meridian Twp does in their lunch room) and haul them to a drop-off center (click here and select "Ingham County").

  4. Place them in your commercial cardboard container (if you "Bag It" service).

  5. Re-use them.

  6. Don't buy them...

The previous article titled "Out-of-the-Bag Thinking," hints at this solution.  From an energy perspective, a re-usable canvas bag is 39 times better than a paper bag and 14 times better than a plastic bag

I suspect that there are similar savings for using a re-usable water bottle -- not to mention the other advantages hinted at here.

What do you think?
